Part 4: The Lineup Became Final
The sponsor room changed shape after that sentence. Not with a speech, but with process. Marisol moved the family group cards to the side table and separated the approved talent stacks from the solo asset stacks. A production assistant took down the extra chair that had been placed near the center mark. The cyc wall marker stayed gone. The camera crew waited with lenses capped, not because anyone was crying, but because Noah had told them not to roll until the list matched the set.
Sienna stood beside the monitor cart and kept speaking in short, sharp bursts. “We can do the family content without a delay. Jade can still shoot separate material. The brand doesn’t need all this friction.”
Noah did not look at her while he read the contract packet again. He had the printout on the counter, the tablet open, and the old shot list visible beside Jade’s phone. The camera pin sat on top of the packet where Elena had left it.
“The brand does need the names to match the approved family-facing deliverables,” he said. “Right now they do not.”
He turned one page, then another. Elena stayed where she was, one hand on the edge of the glam counter. Marisol stood ready with a pen. The photographer waited with his hands in his pockets.
Noah made the decision in the same flat tone he had used all afternoon. “Jade Mercer is added to the family set roster as approved talent for today’s campaign block. Sienna Mercer is removed from the authority to revise family-facing placement without sponsor confirmation. Any existing look card that excludes Jade from the family group is void.” He looked at Marisol. “Print a corrected lineup now.”
Marisol did not argue. She opened the printer queue and started a new batch.
Sienna let out a short laugh that had no warmth in it. “You are changing the whole shoot because of a prop and an old clip?”
Noah answered with the packet in his hand. “I am changing it because the visible record does not support your exclusion.” He tapped the page with Jade’s name. “This is the approved draft. This is the set. They are matching now.”
That was the irreversible choice. The room did not erupt. No one chased anyone down a hallway. Instead, the consequences landed in plain operational ways. The sponsor family shot moved back twenty minutes. The hair team had to restyle the group. The social team sent a new caption draft to the brand rep. And Sienna’s planned lead placement vanished from the center card stack.
Marisol handed Noah the fresh printout when it came off the machine. Jade’s name was on line three of the family block. Sienna’s old note had been removed. Noah initialed the corrected page and slipped it into the contract packet.
Sienna looked at Elena then, as if waiting for a rescue sentence. Elena did not give her one. She only picked up the pin and handed it to Jade.
Jade closed her fingers around it, then clipped it back onto the inside seam of her garment bag instead of wearing it. That small motion was the only thing she did that read like a boundary.
The camera crew reset the marks. Marisol called the family group back to the cyc wall. This time Jade stood where the empty space had been, badge on, lanyard straight, pinned into the lineup by the paper Noah had just signed.
After the final frame, the studio did not celebrate. The assistants packed silently. Sienna took her bag from glam without speaking to Jade. Noah put the original crossed-out look card into the waste stack. Elena folded the old shot list and tucked it back into the velvet box.
At the Mercer house later, the kitchen light was on but nobody was talking over dinner. The new approved roster lay faceup on the counter beside Jade’s phone. One corrected line had replaced a whole argument, and the house had not found a way to sound normal around it yet.
Jade set the pin box on the counter, took the stamped lineup page, and left it there for everyone to see.
