The terminal transaction history at the Jump & Play Zone front desk recorded the resolution of the dispute at 2:42 PM. The security footage shows Marcus Vance sliding a handheld USB barcode scanner across the counter toward Evelyn Jenkins. His expression remained neutral, his tone flat and administrative.
“If you wish to maintain your formal objection to the safety of these gifts,” Marcus said, “our guest relations policy requires the objecting party to manually input the transaction data for every item they wish to clear. You will scan the barcode of each receipt, associate it with your guest profile, and sign the liability waiver. Otherwise, the booking host will proceed, and your access status for the private room will be restricted to a spectator role.”
Evelyn looked at the scanner, then at the folder of receipts Sarah had placed on the counter. Her hands remained clasped over her clipboard. “This is an unnecessary administrative hurdle. I was trying to assist the staff.”
“Our staff does not require unauthorized policy enforcement,” Marcus replied, his voice maintaining a cold, professional level. “Please begin scanning the receipts, or I will update the room log to indicate a guest refusal, which will result in your removal from the hosting list.”
According to the lobby security video, Evelyn stood in silence for several seconds. She glanced at the hallway where the other parents were watching. With a slow, deliberate movement, she reached out, took the scanner, and picked up the first receipt from Sarah’s stack. One by one, she scanned the barcodes of the toy store receipts, the target receipts, and the printing invoices for the goody bags. Each beep of the scanner registered on the terminal screen, documented under her name in the system’s incident log.
Sarah stood by the counter, watching the process without speaking. Her posture relaxed as the pile of receipts was systematically cleared.
Once the final receipt beeped, Marcus took the scanner back. He typed for a moment, then printed a revised guest receipt manifest. He signed it and handed a copy to Sarah. “The safety log is cleared. The gifts are approved for entry. Mrs. Evelyn Jenkins has been logged as a non-hosting guest for the remainder of the booking session. Any further policy disputes will result in immediate termination of the room rental.”
Evelyn did not reply. She turned and walked back toward Party Room 4B, her clipboard tucked under her arm.
Sarah picked up the goody bags and the folder of verified documents. The tension in her shoulders had visibly released. She walked back down the corridor toward the party room, where the sound of the children playing had resumed. The restriction was officially on the books, and the party proceeded without further disruption.
