Marcus opened the secure, offline database directory where Lab Report V-9082 was stored. The file contained the twenty-five-year-old sequencing profile showing the unauthorized edit linked to the Vance family lineage. Arthur walked over to Marcus’s station. His leather shoes clicked sharply against the vinyl flooring. He leaned over the counter, his eyes fixed on the terminal screen.

Marcus clicked the confirmation button. The system registered the file.
