On the screen, a cursor had physically dragged the window containing Mercer’s private session details into the active sharing frame. Finch had not just shared a diagnostic screen; he had uncropped the window to reveal Mercer’s real-time transcript alongside her personal profile.
“The uncropped version contradicts your report,” Vance said, his tone remaining flat. He pointed to the digital tablet’s display. “The manual override checkbox was toggled at 14:01:45. That is twenty-six seconds before the Voice Model Drive was initialized. It was not a background utility process.”
Finch stepped back from the console, his fingers drumming against his leg. “I had to adjust the frame rate. The client complained about latency. It was a technical adjustment to keep the voice sync aligned with the holographic avatar.”
“The log shows you did not adjust the frame rate,” Vance said. “You clicked Share Window and selected TechGroup-East. The uncropped screen shows that the group chat window was already open on your secondary monitor, with users asking when the session would start.”
The reconstructed timeline showed that once the stream began, Finch lost control of the context. The tech group members did not merely watch; they began sharing the link to external public channels. The log files tracked a sudden spike in inbound connection requests. Within three minutes, the private room’s audio feed had been accessed by seventy-four unique IP addresses across four different municipal regions.
On the security camera footage, Mercer could be seen looking toward the operator booth. Her hand clutched the lapel of her coat as she stood up from the central seat. The synthesized voice had stopped speaking because the system’s bandwidth had been throttled by the sudden influx of external connections. She walked toward the glass partition, her lips moving, though the internal room audio was not captured on this specific log. She was pointing at Finch’s phone, which was propped up on the desk, its screen glowing with the rapid scroll of a live chat room.
